How to Use Time Zone Calculator

The Time Zone Calculator makes international time conversion simple in three steps.

  1. Select Source Time Zone — Choose the city or UTC offset that matches your local time zone from the dropdown.
  2. Select Target Time Zone — Pick the destination city or UTC offset you want to convert to.
  3. Enter Date and Time — Input the exact date and local time; the Time Zone Calculator instantly shows the equivalent time at the target location.

The Time Zone Calculator also displays UTC time, time difference, DST status for both zones, and whether the conversion crosses a calendar day boundary. This makes the Time Zone Calculator especially valuable for scheduling international meetings where participants span multiple continents.

Formula & Theory — Time Zone Calculator

The Time Zone Calculator uses the following formula:

Target Time = Source Time − (Source UTC Offset) + (Target UTC Offset)
Time Difference = Target UTC Offset − Source UTC Offset
Symbol Meaning
Source UTC Offset Base UTC offset of the source zone (minutes), plus DST offset if active
Target UTC Offset Base UTC offset of the target zone (minutes), plus DST offset if active
Time Difference Net offset difference; positive means target is ahead of source

First, the Time Zone Calculator converts the source local time to UTC by subtracting the source offset. It then adds the target offset to obtain the target local time. Daylight Saving Time adds 60 minutes to the effective offset for zones that observe it during the appropriate season.

Daylight Saving Time in the Time Zone Calculator

The Time Zone Calculator applies a seasonal DST heuristic: Northern Hemisphere zones (positive offset) observe DST from March through October; Southern Hemisphere zones observe DST from October through March. This is an approximation — exact transition dates vary by country and year.

Use Cases for Time Zone Calculator

The Time Zone Calculator serves a wide range of real-world scenarios:

  • International Meetings — Determine the local time for every participant when you schedule a cross-continent video call. The Time Zone Calculator eliminates confusion over 9 AM PST versus 5 PM GMT.
  • Remote Work Collaboration — Distributed teams spread across Asia, Europe, and the Americas use the Time Zone Calculator daily to coordinate standups and deadlines.
  • Travel Planning — Before boarding a long-haul flight, use the Time Zone Calculator to figure out your arrival time in the destination city and plan jet-lag recovery.
  • Online Events and Webinars — Event organizers use the Time Zone Calculator to publish correct local times for every attendee region.
  • Staying in Touch with Family Abroad — The Time Zone Calculator helps you find a mutually convenient calling window without waking anyone at 3 AM.
  • Financial Markets — Traders use the Time Zone Calculator to track when stock exchanges in New York, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong open and close relative to their own time zone.

Frequently asked questions about Time Zone Calculator

How does the Time Zone Calculator work?

The Time Zone Calculator converts your input time from the source time zone to UTC, then from UTC to the target time zone, applying each zone's UTC offset and DST status.

Does the Time Zone Calculator account for Daylight Saving Time?

Yes. The Time Zone Calculator applies a simplified DST heuristic based on whether the selected zone observes DST and the season of the input date.

What does 'time difference' mean in the Time Zone Calculator?

Time difference is the target UTC offset minus the source UTC offset, including any active DST adjustments.

Can the Time Zone Calculator show cross-day results?

Yes. When the converted time falls on a different calendar date, the Time Zone Calculator displays +1 day or -1 day alongside the result.

Is my data stored?
