How to Use Chord Finder
The Chord Finder is a fast chord lookup tool for musicians who know the root and chord type but want the note names immediately.
- Select the root note you want to look up.
- Select the chord quality or seventh-chord type.
- Use the main note list for the chord spelling and the keyboard-position detail as a compact practice reference.
- Repeat the lookup for nearby roots when learning the same chord shape in several keys.
Formula & Theory - Chord Finder
The Chord Finder uses the following formula or calculation model:
Found chord = selected root + selected chord interval set
Displayed positions = calculated chord notes mapped to pitch classes
The Chord Finder uses the same pitch-class interval logic as a chord dictionary. It does not need a database because common chord qualities can be described as semitone offsets from the root. The result is immediate and consistent, which is helpful for instrument practice and theory drills.
Assumptions and Limits
The finder gives pitch classes, not full guitar fingerings or voice-leading suggestions. Instrument-specific fingering depends on tuning and position.
Use Cases for Chord Finder
Specific use cases include:
- Look up a chord while reading a song chart.
- Find notes to play on a keyboard before arranging a part.
- Check chord tones for improvisation practice.
- Build a quick reference for students learning triads and seventh chords.
