How to Use the DASI Calculator

Check activities the person can usually perform, such as self-care, walking, stairs, running, housework, yardwork, sexual activity, and recreation. Avoid checking activities stopped by symptoms.

The calculator sums activity weights into a DASI score and estimates VO2 and METs. Higher METs suggest better functional capacity.

Formula and Method - DASI Calculator

VO2 peak = 0.43 × DASI + 9.6; METs = VO2 peak ÷ 3.5

DASI estimates functional capacity from weighted daily activities. Completing higher-demand activities raises the score, and the derived METs provide a rough cardiopulmonary reserve indicator.

Use Cases for the DASI Calculator

  • Preoperative functional capacity screening.
  • Tracking functional status in cardiovascular follow-up.
  • Comparing activity ability before and after rehabilitation.

Frequently asked questions about DASI Calculator

Should occasional activities be checked?

Only check activities the person can usually complete without stopping from symptoms.

What is the maximum DASI score?

This 12-item version totals about 58.2 points.

Are METs directly measured?

No. They are estimated from DASI; exercise testing measures capacity more directly.
