How to Use GPA Calculator
Add one row for each course that should count toward the GPA. Enter grade points using the same grading scale for every row, such as 4.0, 4.3, or another institutional scale.
Enter the credit value for each course. A four-credit course should influence the GPA more than a one-credit course, which is why credits are part of the weighted calculation.
After calculating, compare GPA with total credits and weighted points. If the GPA looks surprising, check whether a high-credit course has an unexpectedly low or high grade point value.
Formula & Theory - GPA Calculator
The GPA Calculator uses GPA = sum of grade points times credits divided by sum of credits. Each course contributes grade points multiplied by its credit value to the weighted total.
This is a weighted average, not a simple average of course grades. A course with more credits has more influence. The calculator does not convert letter grades automatically; enter the numeric grade point values that match your school policy. Pass/fail, withdrawals, repeats, and transfer credits may require special institutional rules outside this simple formula.
Use Cases for GPA Calculator
- Estimate semester or term GPA before grades are finalized.
- Test how a target grade in one course affects the overall GPA.
- Explain why credit-heavy courses move the average more strongly.
