How to Use MIPI Calculator
- Enter age in years.
- Enter WBC count using the calculator’s expected clinical scale.
- Enter LDH as a ratio to the upper limit of normal, then enter Karnofsky performance score.
Formula & Theory - MIPI Calculator
MIPI Calculator uses this core formula:
MIPI = 0.03535 × Age + 0.6978 × log10(WBC) + 1.367 × log10(LDH ratio) + 0.9393 × Performance term
Performance term = 1 if Karnofsky < 80, otherwise 0
MIPI is a prognostic index for mantle cell lymphoma that combines age, leukocyte count, LDH relative to the upper normal limit, and performance status. Logarithms are used for WBC and LDH because their risk relationship is not linear across the full range. Karnofsky score contributes a penalty when performance status is reduced. The final score is grouped into low, intermediate, or high risk bands, but treatment decisions require specialist oncology evaluation and disease-specific details.
Use Cases for MIPI Calculator
- Estimating a MIPI risk group after diagnostic clinical data are available.
- Explaining which variables drive a higher mantle cell lymphoma prognostic score.
- Checking a hand calculation of MIPI before documenting a case discussion.
