How to Calculate Your Tarot Birth Cards

Use a Gregorian date. This free tarot birth card calculator follows The Tarot School’s published formula. It requires no account, name, birthplace or birth time.

  1. Add the month, day, first two year digits and last two year digits: MM + DD + CC + YY.
  2. For a two-digit total, add its digits. For a three-digit total, add the first two digits as one number to the last digit. If the result exceeds 21, reduce again.
  3. Keep a two-digit card and reduce it to its companion. A single digit receives its implied partner. Preserve 19 → 10 → 1 as three cards.

Example 1: an ordinary pair

February 21, 1950: 02 + 21 + 19 + 50 = 92, then 9 + 2 = 11, and 1 + 1 = 2. The combination is Justice (11) and The High Priestess (2).

Example 2: a single-digit result

January 1, 2000: 01 + 01 + 20 + 00 = 22, then 2 + 2 = 4. Its implied partner is 4 + 9 = 13: Death (13) and The Emperor (4). This method does not assign 22 to The Fool.

Example 3: three birth cards

March 7, 1980: 03 + 07 + 19 + 80 = 109, then 10 + 9 = 19, 1 + 9 = 10, and 1 + 0 = 1. Keep The Sun (19), Wheel of Fortune (10) and The Magician (1).

For another three-digit check, August 20, 1969 gives 116 → 17 → 8: The Star and Strength. The initial reduction matters: January 1, 1900 totals 21, which first reduces to 3 and receives the implied 12/3 pair. A later reduction reaching 21 gives 21/3 instead.

Why Tarot Birth Card Results Can Differ

The method label is part of your result. Adding all birthday digits individually, adding the whole year, or choosing different companion rules can produce another combination. The Tarot School acknowledges that methods differ; its formula is one convention, not a universally agreed or scientifically validated answer.

This page uses Strength = 8, Justice = 11, and no Fool birth card. Single digits 2 and 3 receive 11 and 12 respectively; a reduction that reaches 20 or 21 retains that group. You can compare the displayed arithmetic with another tool before comparing its interpretation.

Frequently asked questions about Tarot Birth Card Calculator

What is my tarot birth card?

In this symbolic system, your Gregorian birthday is converted into a group of Major Arcana cards. Enter your month, day and year above to find yours. The result is a reflection prompt, not a scientific personality assessment.

Why do I have two or three tarot birth cards?

The Tarot School links a two-digit card with its reduced single-digit companion. If the calculation reaches 19, it keeps the three-card sequence 19, 10 and 1: The Sun, Wheel of Fortune and The Magician. A single-digit result also receives a companion.

Do my birth cards change every day?

No. The same birthday and method give the same combination. This calculator does not draw random cards or assign upright and reversed positions.

Why do tarot birth card calculators give different results?

Some add every date digit separately; others add the full year or use different reduction and pairing rules. Decks may also swap Strength and Justice. This page uses The Tarot School method, with Strength as 8 and Justice as 11.

Do Death, The Tower or The Devil mean something bad will happen?

No. These names are symbolic prompts about endings, reassessment or attachment. They do not predict death, accidents, disasters or a particular outcome in your life.

Is my birthday saved or shared?

The calculator keeps your date only in the current page’s memory. It does not write it to storage, the URL, copied results or analytics. Advertising and third-party analytics scripts are disabled on this page. Clear or reload the page to reset the calculator.
