How to Use the Bed Occupancy Calculator

Enter the current available bed count and the occupied bed count. Available beds should exclude closed or unavailable beds, and both inputs should refer to the same moment.

The calculator reports occupancy and capacity status. If remaining beds are enabled, it also shows unoccupied beds directly.

Formula and Method - Bed Occupancy Calculator

Bed occupancy = (occupied beds ÷ available beds) × 100%

Bed occupancy reflects operational pressure. Low occupancy may suggest unused capacity, while very high occupancy can reduce admission flexibility and increase transfer pressure.

Use Cases for the Bed Occupancy Calculator

  • Checking ward, facility, or temporary-care-site capacity.
  • Recording occupancy and remaining beds in shift or operations reports.
  • Modeling how adding or removing beds changes occupancy.
