How to Use Digital Detox Meter
Digital Detox Meter scores daily screen exposure, social media time, work-related online time and bedtime use into a 0-100 detox need index.
Follow this workflow:
- Set the inputs - Enter hours for total screen time, social media, work-related online time and bedtime screen use.
- Run or review - Use a typical weekday if you want a work-life boundary reading, or a weekend day if you want leisure-use insight.
- Interpret the output - Read the level and suggestion as a habit signal, especially when bedtime use or social media time dominates the score.
Formula & Theory - Digital Detox Meter
The Digital Detox Meter uses this rule:
detox index = total screen hours x 7 + social hours x 8 + work online hours x 4 + bedtime hours x 12
result is capped at 100
The formula treats all screen time as relevant but gives extra weight to social media and bedtime use. Those contexts are more likely to extend unintentionally or interfere with rest. Work time receives a lower weight because it may be necessary, but it still contributes to total digital load.
The capped 0-100 index makes the result easy to compare between days. It is not a clinical score; it is a practical reflection tool for noticing when digital routines deserve adjustment.
Use Cases for Digital Detox Meter
The Digital Detox Meter is especially useful in these situations:
- Review whether bedtime phone use is undermining sleep.
- Plan a weekend digital reset.
- Discuss screen habits in a wellness workshop.
- Track whether a new notification routine reduces digital load.
