How to Use Recruitment Duration Calculator
Enter the average duration for each hiring stage in days. Include waiting time if your process usually has gaps between interviews. The calculator sums the stages and labels the total as fast, typical, or long so you can identify where the timeline may need attention.
Formula & Theory - Recruitment Duration Calculator
The total is the sum of the hiring stages you enter:
total duration = posting + screening + first interview + final interview + background check + offer
Each stage should include the waiting time normally attached to that step. For example, if interview feedback takes two days after the first interview, include those two days in the first-interview stage or in the next stage consistently. A short total suggests a fast process; a long total points to bottlenecks such as slow screening, delayed interview scheduling, or background-check waiting.
Use Cases for Recruitment Duration Calculator
- Hiring planning - Estimate when a newly opened role may realistically close.
- SLA review - Compare actual stage durations against internal recruiting targets.
- Process redesign - Test how much time can be saved by shortening screening or interview gaps.
After calculating the total, look for the single longest stage first; that is usually where process improvement has the highest payoff.
