How to Use Urea Removal Calculator
- Enter the pre-dialysis urea concentration before the treatment session.
- Enter the post-dialysis urea concentration from the same session. It should not exceed the pre-dialysis value.
- Review the URR percentage and the adequacy prompt shown by the calculator.
Formula & Theory - Urea Removal Calculator
Urea Removal Calculator uses this core formula:
URR = [(Pre-dialysis urea - Post-dialysis urea) / Pre-dialysis urea] × 100%
URR measures the proportional fall in blood urea during a dialysis session. Because urea is a small solute, its reduction is a convenient marker of clearance, but it does not capture every aspect of dialysis adequacy. Recirculation, sampling timing, residual kidney function, ultrafiltration, and treatment duration can all affect interpretation. The formula is intentionally simple: it compares the amount removed with the starting concentration and reports the result as a percentage.
Use Cases for Urea Removal Calculator
- Quickly checking whether a dialysis session reached a common urea reduction target.
- Comparing URR values across sessions after prescription changes.
- Explaining to patients how pre- and post-dialysis labs turn into a percentage.
