How to Use CAGE Questionnaire
The CAGE Questionnaire asks four alcohol-screening questions: Cut down, Annoyed, Guilty and Eye-opener. Answer Yes or No to each question and the page immediately totals the score.
Answer from lived experience rather than from yesterday’s drink count. CAGE focuses on control, social feedback, guilt and morning drinking, so it can still be useful when drinking quantity varies.
Formula & Theory - CAGE Questionnaire
CAGE is a brief screening tool. Each positive answer adds one point, and a score of 2 or more suggests possible alcohol-related concern requiring further assessment.
It is not a diagnosis and does not assess withdrawal risk or liver injury. A higher result usually calls for a fuller alcohol history, AUDIT screening or professional support.
CAGE score = Cut down + Annoyed + Guilty + Eye-opener
Each Yes answer = 1 point
Score ≥ 2 suggests possible alcohol-related concern
Use Cases for CAGE Questionnaire
Use it in health education, primary-care screening, mental-health self-checks and public-health pages. It works well for anonymous self-assessment because it is short and direct.
